O our true God, grant relief and heal us of affliction,
Our true God, relieve and heal our wounds
For it is an abode of burdens and pains.
For this is a world of burdens and pains

Make easy for us a departure that does not keep us lingering,
Make easy for us the departure that takes us not long
To the grave-pits, away from kin and close friends.
To the graves, away from family and friends

For how patient You have been when we are not deserving

The Christian man has embraced Islam, seeking advantage,
The Christian man has turned Muslim, tempted
And that is not out of love for Islam.
Not out of love for Islam

Rather, he sought only prestige in his livelihood,
But he sought honor in his livelihood
Or feared a blow from a keen-edged, severing sword.
Or feared the lash of the past, the unforgiving

Or wished to marry a woman like a gazelle, adorned
Or desired to marry, like a gazelle, a trained
For onlookers with bracelets and henna.
Beauty for viewers, over walls and signs

People have sought God's provision and set out early,
People have sought the sustenance of God, so they invented
Striving through gainful work and with pens.
Ways, struggling with scrolls and pens

We hope from God for spaciousness after constraint
We hope for expansiveness from God after constraint
In our affairs, and for light after darkness.
In matters, and light after darkness

His are the kingdoms; their signs have become clear
To Him belong the kingdoms, their signs are manifest
To those who reflect, through banners and standards.
To the thinkers, with flags and banners

And fortune without striving is among His gifts,
And the fortune without effort, from His gifts
As though they were gamblers' drawing of lots with arrows.
As if it were a drawing of lots with tokens
