I act hypocritically in life, as others do,

And hypocrisy is the way of all people.

I soothe my soul, while my time cries out:

“Will you not set out? For the companions have already gone.”

Yes—and journeying is among the deeds of others,

Even if reclining and resting on an elbow last long.

Humankind differs in the gifts it receives,

And in death they are united in equality.

Do we consent to the nights changing us,

While a clashing is heard from our lutes?
