وَتِلكَand those سَجاياinnate traits لِلنُفوسِof souls النَواقِصِdeficient
وَتِلكَ سَجايا لِلنُفوسِ النَواقِصِ
Some people have lied, borrowing noble standing;
A people denied though borrowing brands
And those are the traits of deficient souls.
And such are traits of imperfect souls
إِذاwhen مُتُّI die لَمnot أَحفِلI care بِماabout what قالَsaid عائِبيmy detractor
إِذا مُتُّ لَم أَحفِل بِما قالَ عائِبي
وَهَلand has ...? ضَرَّharmed تُرباًdust رَميُهُpelting it بِالمَشاقِصِwith arrowheads
وَهَل ضَرَّ تُرباً رَميُهُ بِالمَشاقِصِ
When I die, I will not care what my detractor says;
When I die, heed not detractors' wiles
And has pelting dust with arrowheads ever harmed it?
Can soil hurt if cast by dirt-flinging fools?
