Reason tells me that I am in a deep sea
Reason informs me that I am in a swamp
Of falsehood—and so is this world.
Of falsehood, and so too is this world

Our hearts are like stones in the face of admonitions,
Like stones in preaching are our hearts
Or like iron—if only we felt no pain.
Or like iron, if only we did not grieve
