يا ثالِثَ الثِنيَينِ في خَمسَةٍ
إِربَعpause لِكَيso that تَستَخيرَyou may choose the best الأَربُعاthe dwellings
إِربَع لِكَي تَستَخيرَ الأَربُعا
O third alongside the two pairs, making five,
O third of the two in five
Pause, so you may choose the best of the dwellings.
Four so you can take counsel of four
يَنبُعُwells up مِنfrom عَينَيكَyour two eyes ماءٌwater لَهُمfor them
يَنبُعُ مِن عَينَيكَ ماءٌ لَهُم
إِذاwhen خَليطٌcompanions يَمَّمواthey headed for يَنبُعاYanbuʿ
إِذا خَليطٌ يَمَّموا يَنبُعا
Water wells from your two eyes for them
From your eyes flows water for them
When companions head for Yanbuʿ.
When a mixture they sought flows
فَهَلso, do...? تَرىyou see كِسراًa fragment عَلىon الأَرضِthe earth مِنof
فَهَل تَرى كِسراً عَلى الأَرضِ مِن
كِسراكَyour Kisra أَوor مِنof تُبَّعٍTubbaʿ تُبَّعاa shadow
كِسراكَ أَو مِن تُبَّعٍ تُبَّعا
So do you see on earth a fragment of
Do you see then a fragment on earth
Your Kisra, or a shadow of Tubbaʿ?
Like your fragment or a following like the following
وَكَمand how many لَقيناwe have met ضَبُعاًa hyena أَقبَلَتit came forward
وَكَم لَقينا ضَبُعاً أَقبَلَت
تَفتَرِسُit devours الآسادَthe lions وَالأَضبُعاand the hyenas
تَفتَرِسُ الآسادَ وَالأَضبُعا
And how many a hyena have we met, coming forward,
And how many hyenas we met
Devouring lions and hyenas!
