لَوif كانَتِwere الخَمرُwine حِلّاًlawful ماnot سَمَحتُI would permit بِهاit
لِنَفسِيَto myself الدَهرَever لاnot سِرّاًin secret وَلاnor عَلَناopenly
If wine were lawful, I would not permit it
to myself, ever—neither in secret nor openly.
فَليَغفِرِso may He forgive اللَهُGod كَمhow greatly تَطغىtransgress مَآرِبُناour desires
وَرَبُّناand our Lord قَدindeed أَحَلَّmade lawful الطَيِّباتِgood things لَناfor us
So may God forgive—how greatly our desires transgress!
And our Lord has indeed made good things lawful for us.
