تَلَفَّعَ بِالعَباءِ رِجالُ صِدقٍ

تَلَفَّعَ بِالعَباءِ رِجالُ صِدقٍ

وَأَوسَعَ غَيرُهُم سَرَقاً وَلاذا

وَأَوسَعَ غَيرُهُم سَرَقاً وَلاذا

Men of integrity wrapped themselves in woolen cloaks,

Men of honor wrap themselves in cloaks,

while others had silk and fine silk cloth in abundance.

While others spread vice and take refuge in it.

فَلا تَعجَب لِأَحكامِ اللَيالي

فَلا تَعجَب لِأَحكامِ اللَيالي

فَإِنَّ صُروفَها بُنِيَت عَلى ذا

فَإِنَّ صُروفَها بُنِيَت عَلى ذا

So do not marvel at the decrees of the nights,

So be not surprised at the turns of fate -

for their vicissitudes were built on this.

For its vicissitudes are built upon this.
