أَرى كُلَّ خَيرٍ في الزَمانِ مُفارِقاً

أَرى كُلَّ خَيرٍ في الزَمانِ مُفارِقاً

فَلا تَأسَفَنّ فيها لِقِلَّةِ خَيرِكا

فَلا تَأسَفَنّ فيها لِقِلَّةِ خَيرِكا

I see every good thing in this age passing away.

I see all good in this era departing,

So do not grieve in it over how little good is yours.

So lament not the paucity of your own good deeds.

وَدُنياكَ سارَت بِالأَنامِ مُغِذَّةً

وَدُنياكَ سارَت بِالأَنامِ مُغِذَّةً

فَلا فَرقَ فيها بَينَ سَيري وَسَيرِكا

فَلا فَرقَ فيها بَينَ سَيري وَسَيرِكا

And your world has sped onward with humankind.

And the days of your life flowed nourishing people,

So in it there is no difference between my journey and yours.

So no difference in it between my life and yours.

أَصاحِ أَتَدري كَيفَ بَعدَكَ حالُها

أَصاحِ أَتَدري كَيفَ بَعدَكَ حالُها

أَجَل مِثلَ ما شاهَدتَهُ بَعدَ غَيرِكا

أَجَل مِثلَ ما شاهَدتَهُ بَعدَ غَيرِكا

O friend, do you know how it will fare after you?

My friend, do you know how it fared after you?

Yes—just as you have seen it after others.

Yes, just as what you witnessed after others.

فَإِن كُنتَ لا تَسطيعُ لِلنَفعِ كَثرَةً

فَإِن كُنتَ لا تَسطيعُ لِلنَفعِ كَثرَةً

فَلا تُعدِمَنَّكَ النَفسُ قِلَّةَ ضيرِكا

فَلا تُعدِمَنَّكَ النَفسُ قِلَّةَ ضيرِكا

So if you cannot bring much benefit,

If you cannot avail much benefit,

Then do not let your soul deprive you of keeping the harm you cause small.

Then let not your soul deny you little benefit.
