O friend, if you converse with another, a well-wisher

earnestly seeks your good: that you both keep silent.

How often has death rebuked the man greedy for what

is to come, so his two eyes streamed and their tears dwindled.

The two feet have hurried on without right guidance,

and his two hands have given no alms from what he acquired.

And the soul doubted the certainty of the matter, and the

two palms, when they shot at quarry, pierced it.

They never ceased—with the cord of hopes in their grasp—

clinging to it, until both were loosened.

The two Meccas did not heal my sin, and indeed I have

two lips that have sucked the teats of livelihood.
