جُرact unjustly ياO غُرابُraven وَأَفسِدand wreak havoc لَنwill not تَرىyou see أَحَداًanyone
إِلّاexcept مُسيئاًa wrongdoer وَأَيُّand which الخَلقِof creation لَمdid not يَجُرِact unjustly
Do wrong, O raven, and wreak havoc: you will see no one
but a wrongdoer—and which creature has not done wrong?
فَخُذso take مِنَfrom الزَرعِthe crops ماwhat يَكفيكَsuffices you عَنat عُرُضٍrandom

So take at random from the crops as much as you need,
and seek sustenance in the lofty trees.
وَماand not أَلومُكَI blame you بَلrather أَوليكَI grant you مَعذِرَةًan excuse
إِذاwhen خَطَفتَyou snatch ذُبالَlamp-wicks القَومِof the people فيin الحُجَرِthe chambers
And I do not blame you; rather, I grant you an excuse
when you snatch the people's lamp-wicks in their chambers.
فَآلُfor the descendants of حَوّاءَEve راعواthey frightened الأُسدَthe lions مُخدِرَةًin their lairs
وَلَمand did not يُنادواthey call out to بِسِلمٍin peace رَبَّةَthe mistress of الوَجُرِthe den
For Eve's descendants have frightened lions in their lairs,
nor called in peace to the mistress of the den.
وَمَنand whoever أَتاهُمcame to them بِظُلمٍwith injustice فَهُوَthen he is عِندَهُمُin their eyes
كَجالِبِlike one bringing التَمرِdates مُغتَرّاًdeluded إِلىto هَجَرِHajar
And whoever comes to them with injustice is, in their eyes,
like a deluded man bringing dates to Hajar.
هُمُthey المَعاشِرُthe communities ضامواthey oppressed كُلَّeveryone مَنwhom صَحِبواthey accompanied
مِنof جِنسِهِمtheir own kind وَأَباحواand made fair game of كُلَّevery مُحتَجِرِone taking shelter
They are the folk who oppressed all their companions
of their own kind, and made all who sought shelter fair game.
لَوif كُنتَyou were حافِظَguardian of أَثمارٍfruits لَهُمfor them يَنَعَتhad ripened
ثُمَّthen اِقتَرَبتَyou drew near لَماwould not أَخلَوكَthey left you free مِنof حَجَرِa stone
If you were guarding fruit that had ripened for them,
then drew near, they would not fail to throw a stone at you.
