You raise doubts, and the companion will depart.
Soon shall we part, though affection still binds us
Close kinship binds us and the dust.
We are kin in name, and neighbors by home
جَرىsped بِفِراقِwith the parting of جيرَتِناour neighbors غُرابٌa raven

A raven sped, heralding our neighbors’ parting—
With our neighbor's departure, a raven did cry
A strange deed, according to what they say.
Strange are the words that fall from their lips

A gullible man began awaiting the news,
Tomorrow, news shall come that brings worry
And a shrewd herald cried out their parting.
Calling them to return to their sons

Spear-thrusts at every moment, or sword-blows;
Each day a calamity or misfortune
By these a man dies, pierced or struck.
Where a complainer or blamer dies

And earth has no sense of those upon it,
On a land that feels not for those upon it
And not a soul of them remains upon it.
No loved one remains, nor intimate friend

And bodies in which treachery mingles:
With specters, betrayal keeps pace
So neither tablemate nor drinking companion keeps faith.
Neither food nor drink bring peace

If wealth is bound to pass away,
If riches must fade and disappear
Then every wealthy man among us is despoiled.
Then we all live in fear and peril
