    وَأَنفِقا المالَ الَّذي تُمسِكان

    If you two wish to be devout, be still;

    And spend the wealth you both retain.

    And believe, in your state of piety,

    That you two associate no partners with God.

    If you two follow an ignorant man in a creed,

    Then you cast truth out of your character.

    And you seek a goal that exhausts you both,

    And use up your lives without attaining it.

    Neither Shapur nor Tubbaʿ was ransomed

    By the gold they had found and owned.

    And the luminary of night and the morning sun

    Have endured, but both will perish.

    Glory to Him who subdued the star of darkness,

    And the full moon—both travel under His power.

    يَبهَتُ مِن ناظِرَهُ حَيثُ كان

    This young man is more shameless than a rock;

    He slanders whoever debates him, wherever he may be.

    And he claims sincerity in his religion,

    Yet in his speech he alludes to unbelief.

    He claims that half of ten is not

    Five, and that a body is in no place.
