قَدindeed عَمَّناhas engulfed us الغِشُّdeceit وَأَزرىand brought disgrace بِناupon us

فيin زَمَنٍan age أَعوَزَbecame scarce فيهِin it الخُصوصthe select few
Deceit has indeed engulfed us and brought us low,
Deceit has spread among us and wronged us
in an age when the select few are scarce.
In an age where loyalty was scarce
إِنif نُصِحَis given counsel السُلطانُthe ruler فيconcerning أَمرِهِhis affairs
رَأىhe regards ذَويthose possessing النُصحِsincere counsel بِعَينِwith the eye of الشُصوصthieves
If the ruler is given counsel about his affairs,
If the ruler was advised in his affairs
he regards those offering sincere counsel as thieves.
He saw the well-wishers as impudent
وَكُلُّand all مَنwho فَوقَabove الثَرىthe earth خائِنٌa traitor
حَتّىeven عُدولُupright witnesses المِصرِthe city مِثلُlike اللُصوصthieves
And everyone upon the earth is a traitor,
And all who walk the earth betray
even the city's upright witnesses are like thieves.
Even the just of the land are like thieves
