طالَhas grown long الزَمانُtime عَلَيَّfor me وَهُوَwhile it مُعَلِّليbeguiles me
طالَ الزَمانُ عَلَيَّ وَهُوَ مُعَلِّلي
بِمَثالِثٍwith threefold repetitions مِنof زورُهُits falsehood وَمَثانيand twofold repetitions
بِمَثالِثٍ مِن زورُهُ وَمَثاني
Time has dragged on for me, beguiling me
Time has been long to me though it excuses
With its falsehoods repeated thrice and twice.
With lies thrice over, nay, rather, times eight
كَمhow often حَلَّتِsettled الأَحياءُthe tribes جِدَّةَthe freshness of رَوضَةٍa meadow
كَم حَلَّتِ الأَحياءُ جِدَّةَ رَوضَةٍ
وَرَعَتand grazed لَهاbelonging to it نَبتاًvegetation لِعامٍfor a year ثانِsecond
وَرَعَت لَها نَبتاً لِعامٍ ثانِ
How often have tribes settled in a fresh meadow,
How many a meadow of life has given drink
And grazed its vegetation for a second year.
To herb of year but that other drank the same
