With my cloak I shielded the skin of my back against the cold,
I braved the chill at dawn with my thin cloak
yet through deeds I did not shield my skin from Saqar.
Yet strayed from righteous deeds, though my skin froze

For guidance leads one to the path of fortune

from Your knowledge of what I conceal within the barrier.

If a young man's good fortune does not precede him,
Your knowledge of me supersedes my learning
then striving in asceticism cannot bring him good fortune.
