Forbearance means not assailing people with harm.

And however much people hurt you, patiently endure the harm.

The lustre of a young man's face is a sign of his forbearance,

Just as foul speech betrays the debasement of his stock.

Nor does an ancient house benefit its descendant,

If he falls short of his forefathers' attainments.

Nor have I thanks for one who has shown no kindness

To me, and is no protector if I seek refuge.

Nor is there good in one who has no covenant of protection

For a neighbor, nor is he a neighbor if he harms or hurts.

And any speech beside which no action is seen

Is babble; wretched is the man whose words are babble.

And whoever cannot drive the pale camels swiftly toward greatness

In pursuit of it, cannot then board the ships.

The noblest of time's sons is he who earns his distinction.

And for anyone once asked, 'Who is this?'—this is answer enough.
