خمس بخمس عن الرحمن أسندها

Five for five, ascribed to the All-Merciful

Five pieces of advice from the Merciful imparted

by Muhammad, the chosen one, sent from Mudar.

By Muhammad the Chosen One sent from Mudar

من ينقض العهد يغلبه العدو ومن

من ينقض العهد يغلبه العدو ومن

لم يقض بالحق بين الناس يفتقر

لم يقض بالحق بين الناس يفتقر

Whoever breaks the covenant is overcome by the enemy; and whoever

Whoever breaks a pact will be overcome by foes and he

does not judge justly among the people falls into poverty.

Who judges not with truth among men will want

ومن يطفف ويبخس كيله أزمت

ومن يطفف ويبخس كيله أزمت

به السنون ومات النبت عن ابز

به السنون ومات النبت عن ابز

And whoever gives short measure and diminishes his measure is afflicted

He who defrauds and skimps on his measure, years

by years of famine, and the plants die [final phrase unclear: عن ابز].

Of drought and crop failure will beset him, beware

وإِن فشت في نوادي القوم فاحشة

وإِن فشت في نوادي القوم فاحشة

فشى الردى فيهم لا شك فاختبر

فشى الردى فيهم لا شك فاختبر

And if indecency spreads in the people's gathering places,

And if immorality spreads among a people's haunts

death spreads among them, without doubt—so test it.

Corruption will surely spread among them, no doubt

ومانع الزكاة المال حل به

ومانع الزكاة المال حل به

قحط فلم يُسقَ شؤبوب من المطر

قحط فلم يُسقَ شؤبوب من المطر

And whoever withholds the alms due on his wealth is overtaken

He who from paying the alms withholds his wealth

by drought, and is given no downpour of rain.

Will suffer drought with no rain clouds sent about
