يا رسول الله هذي أجملي — Alluah

يا رسول اللَه هذي أجملي

عقلت عند حماك المعقل

O Messenger of God, these are my camels,

hobbled at your sanctuary, the secure refuge.

يا رسول اللَه كم كلفتها

لك تطوي مجهلاً في مجهل

O Messenger of God, how often I burdened them,

for you, traversing one trackless waste after another.

يا رسول اللَه كم أودعتها

وهي سر قلب ليلٍ أليل

O Messenger of God, how often I lodged them,

while they lay hidden in the heart of a pitch-dark night.

يا رسول اللَه كم صيرتها

سفناً تجري ببحر العسقل

O Messenger of God, how often I made them

ships sailing through a sea of mirage.

يا رسول اللَه كم أوردتها

منهلاً مراً لعذب المنهل

O Messenger of God, how often I led them to water

at a bitter spring, for the sake of the sweet spring.

يا رسول اللَه كم قد واصلت

غدواتٍ وضحى بالأصل

O Messenger of God, how often they have joined

early mornings and forenoons to late afternoons.

يا رسول اللَه كانت لدنة

فغدت مثل الشنان الفحل

O Messenger of God, they were supple,

then the male camels became like worn-out waterskins.

يا رسول اللَه لما سمعت

فيك مدحي مرحت محرت بي تعتلي

O Messenger of God, when they heard

my praise of you, they pranced and raced, bearing me high.

يا رسول اللَه لما بركت

بعد أينٍ لك حسبي تجتلي

O Messenger of God, when they knelt

after toil, for you—enough for me that you behold them.

يا رسول اللَه سارت مرحاً

ووأنيخت وهي خوص المقل

O Messenger of God, they traveled joyfully,

and were made to kneel, their eyes sunken.

يا رسول اللَه حبي قائدي

لك والسائق حسن الأمل

O Messenger of God, my love is my guide

to you, and good hope is the driver.

يا رسول اللَه يا مزمل

حبذا من مصطفى مزمل

O Messenger of God, O enwrapped one,

how excellent a chosen, enwrapped one!

يا رسول اللَه يا مولى الورى

خير حاف كان أو منتعل

O Messenger of God, O master of creation,

the best of all who ever lived, barefoot or shod.

يا رسول اللَه لولاك لما

كون الكونين مولانا العلي

O Messenger of God, but for you, never

would our Lord Most High have created the two worlds.

يا رسول اللَه لولاك لما

محي الشرق ولا الآي تلي

O Messenger of God, but for you, never

would the East have been effaced, nor the verses recited.

يا رسول اللَه لولاك لما

جنة كانت لأواهٍ ولي

O Messenger of God, but for you, never

would Paradise have existed for a sighing saint.

يا رسول اللَه لولاك لما

أمهل العاصي وبالنار صلي

O Messenger of God, but for you, never

would the sinner have been reprieved; he would have burned in the Fire.

يا رسول اللَه لولاك فما

من نبيٍّ ورسول مرسل

O Messenger of God, but for you there would be no

prophet or messenger sent forth.

يا رسول اللَه لولاك على ال

أنبياء الكتب لما تنزل

O Messenger of God, but for you, upon the

prophets the scriptures would never have descended.

يا رسول اللَه أنت الآخر ال

أول أكرم بالأخير الأول

O Messenger of God, you are the last, the

first—how noble the last, the first!

يا رسول اللَه يا من فضله

سابق وهو ختام الرسل

O Messenger of God, you whose excellence

comes first, though you are the seal of the messengers.

يا رسول اللَه يا من كفه

سبحت فيه صلاد الجندل

O Messenger of God, you in whose palm

hard pebbles glorified God.

يا رسول اللَه يا من قد جرى

بيديه الماء جري الجددول

O Messenger of God, you for whom there flowed

water from both hands, as a brook flows.

يا رسول اللَه يا من جاءه

ناطقاً في الحال فحل الإبل

O Messenger of God, you to whom came

a bull camel, speaking then and there.

يا رسول اللَه يا من يده

عمت السهل وأهل الجبل

O Messenger of God, you whose hand

reached the plain and the mountain folk.

يا رسول اللَه يا من نيله

يبخل النيل وهام المسبل

O Messenger of God, you whose bounty

makes the Nile and the crowns of rainclouds seem miserly.

يا رسول اللَه يا من جاهه

باسط المنع غزير المنهل

O Messenger of God, you whose standing

extends protection, with a copious wellspring.

يا رسول اللَه يا من إن لجا

بلجاه الملتجي لم يخذل

O Messenger of God, you—if someone seeks refuge

in your shelter, that seeker is never forsaken.

يا رسول اللَه إني عبدك ال

مذنب الخاطي كثير الزلل

O Messenger of God, I am your servant, the

sinful wrongdoer, so often stumbling.

يا رسول اللَه قد جئت وبي

علة شنعاء لا كالعلل

O Messenger of God, I have come, afflicted with

a hideous ailment, unlike other ailments.

يا رسول اللَه إني مبتلي

من أذاها داو داء المبتل

O Messenger of God, I am afflicted

by its harm; heal the sufferer's illness.

يا رسول اللَه ذي أحرفها

ذال نون واو باء فصل

O Messenger of God, its letters are these:

dhāl, nūn, wāw, bāʾ—so join them.

يا رسول اللَه ذي أحرفها

ستة جاءت على نسق المبتلي

O Messenger of God, its letters

are six, arranged in the sufferer's sequence.

يا رسول اللَه ألف لامه

ذال نون واو باء فصل

O Messenger of God: alif, its lām,

dhāl, nūn, wāw, bāʾ—so join them.

يا رسول اللَه لي فيك رجا

بعد ما جئتك أن تشفع لي

O Messenger of God, my hope in you,

after coming to you, is that you intercede for me.

يا رسول اللَه إني تائبٌ

فاسأل الرحمن أن يغفر لي

O Messenger of God, I am repentant,

so ask the All-Merciful to forgive me.

يا رسول اللَه إني بكم

مستجيرٌ فأجرني ونل

O Messenger of God, it is in you that I

seek refuge; shelter me and bestow your favor.

يا رسول اللَه ذنبي عنده

خف عمود وركناً يذبل

O Messenger of God, my sin—beside it,

ʿAmūd and the two buttresses of Yadhbul weigh little.

يا رسول اللَه قد أفضحني

فيك واللَه قبيح العمل

O Messenger of God, I have been disgraced

before you, by God, by my foul conduct.

يا رسول اللَه إني مستحٍ

في سؤالي حيث ديني مثقلي

O Messenger of God, I am ashamed

of asking, since my debt weighs me down.

يا رسول اللَه إني وافدٌ

في وفود لفناكم نزل

O Messenger of God, I am an arriving guest

among delegations lodging at your courtyard.

يا رسول اللَه إني زائرٌ

فهب الزائر سؤل الأمل

O Messenger of God, I am a visitor,

so grant the visitor his hoped-for wish.

يا رسول اللَه راحت رفقتي

من منى عني ولما أرحل

O Messenger of God, my companions departed

from Minā, leaving me, while I have not yet departed.

يا رسول اللَه ألقيت بكم

بعد ما جئت الفيافي أرجل

O Messenger of God, I have cast myself upon you,

after crossing the wildernesses on foot.

يا رسول اللَه فاقبل مدحتي

علني أحظى بجدٍّ مقبل

O Messenger of God, accept my praise;

perhaps I may gain good fortune coming my way.

يا رسول اللَه إني فائزٌ

يا رسول اللَه مهما كنت لي

O Messenger of God, I am victorious,

O Messenger of God, so long as you stand by me.

وصلاة اللَه تغشاك على

كر ليلٍ أو ضحى أو أصل

And may God's blessing enfold you with each

return of night, forenoon, or late afternoon;

وضجيعيك وكل الآل والت

تابعين والموالي والولي

and your two companions in repose, all your family, and the

followers, the clients, and the devoted friend.
