لاdo not تتركنّيleave me منbecause of ذنبيmy sin علىin وجلِfear
لا تتركنّي من ذنبي على وجلِ
Look upon me with an eye of forgiveness for my missteps.
Look upon me with forgiving eyes,
Do not leave me in fear because of my sin.
Overlook my trespasses and failures.
موتىmy death وهجركand separation from you مقرونانbound together فيin قرنa tether
موتى وهجرك مقرونان في قرن
فكيفso how أهجرI forsake منone who فيin هجرهseparation from him أجليmy death
فكيف أهجر من في هجره أجلي
My death and separation from you are bound by a single tether.
To die and abandon you are twins,
How, then, can I forsake one when separation from him is my death?
How can I abandon the one who determines my fate?
وليسand there is no ليfor me أملhope إلاexcept وصالكمunion with you
وليس لي أمل إلا وصالكم
فكيفso how أقطعI sever ties with منone who فيin وصلهunion with him أمليmy hope
فكيف أقطع من في وصله أملي
And I have no hope but union with you.
I have no hope but to be with you,
How, then, can I sever ties with one when union with him is my hope?
How can I sever ties with the one who is my hope?
هذاthis فؤاديmy heart لمdid not يملكهpossess it غيركمanyone other than you
هذا فؤادي لم يملكه غيركم
إلاexcept الوصيthe appointed successor أميرCommander of المؤمنينthe Faithful عليAli
إلا الوصي أمير المؤمنين علي
This is my heart; none other than you has possessed it,
This heart of mine is possessed by none but you,
Except the appointed successor, the Commander of the Faithful, Ali.
Except the heir, the Commander of the Faithful Ali.
