وحمائمنبَّهنني

وحمائمنبَّهنني

والليل داجي المشرقينِ

والليل داجي المشرقينِ

And doves awakened me,

Doves calling me,

While night lay dark over the two easts.

And the eastern night falls dark.

شبهتهن وقد بكين

شبهتهن وقد بكين

وما ذرفن دموع عين

وما ذرفن دموع عين

I likened them, as they wept,

They seem like women

Though they shed no tears from their eyes,

Weeping, with no tears from their eyes,

بنساء آل محمد

بنساء آل محمد

لما بكين على الحسين

لما بكين على الحسين

To the women of Muhammad’s family,

Like the women of Muhammad's house

When they wept over al-Husayn.

Crying for al-Husayn.
