Your lover is a victim of his love.

Even if he died of love for you, he would not hate love.

The slanderers' eyes are upon him because of you,

Staring until they cast off eyelid and lashes.

And what harm is it to them if he visits his ailing beloved?

And is he not merely the body, with which he visited the heart?

And a young man's foot, as he walks, follows his heart.

Why, then, did the envious make such a grave affair of my visiting him?

And far be it from that beauty to be clothed in wasting sickness,

And far be it from that light to reach the west.

I see every part of you, like the heart, amid ghada-wood embers,

And like the eyelid in its shedding of moist pearls.

    تُحَبِّبُ إِن زارَت مَضاجِعَهُ غِبّا

    So do not be afraid of fever or its sweat;

It endears itself if it visits his beds every other day.

And had I embraced him, and it then approached,

It would have taken no path to him, easy or hard.

And had his sky dealt fairly with the full moon of heaven,

It would surely have sent the gleaming stars as his sickbed visitors.
