You inherited noble virtues from your father as a law,
You inherited the virtues from your father as a tradition
And upheld them as a way of life in an age of miserliness.
And you followed it during the time of stinginess as a doctrine

Whenever, out of generosity, you clothe the delegation in a garment,
When you clothe the delegation with robes of generosity
They wear it gilded with good cheer.
They have worn it with delight as an adornment
لَوif اَنَّthat زِياداًZiyad كانَhad أَدرَكَlived to see عَصرَهُhis era
لَكانَthen he would have يَرىseen أَيَّwhich of الرِجالِthe men المُهَذَّباthe faultless one
Had Ziyad lived to see his era,
If Ziyad had lived during his time
He would have seen which of men was faultless.
He would have seen which of the men is refined
يُقَطِّعُcuts through عُمرَthe span of اللَيلِthe night عُمرُthe span of سُجودِهِhis prostration
فَلِلَهِso to God belongs مِحرابٌa prayer niche حَوىcontained مِنهُin him مِحرَباa warrior
The span of his prostration cuts through the span of night;
The duration of his nightly prostration consumes his life
So God's is a prayer niche that holds, in him, a warrior.
So for God he has a prayer niche that harbors a loved one
وَفيand in فَقرِthe poverty of عافيهِhis petitioner إِلَيهِto him وَسيلَةٌa means of access

And in his petitioner's poverty lies a means of access to him;
And in the poverty of his dependence on Him is a means
To flow downward is spur enough for the torrent.
It is enough for unleashing the flood that it pours down
