تُرانيyou see me كَثيراًexcessive فيin ذُراكَyour shelter مَقاميmy stay
فَياso, O بَحرُsea هَلwhether صَعبٌburdensome عَلَيكَupon you مُقاميmy stay
You find my stay in your shelter too long;
You often see me staying in your abode,
So, O sea, is my stay burdensome to you?
So oh sea, is my staying burdensome for you?
خُذِtake الآنَnow مِنّيfrom me لاmay not عَدَتكَpass you by مَدائِحيmy praises
وَلاand may not نالَreach دَهراًan age أَنتَyou فيهِin it مَلاميmy reproach
Take this from me now—may my praises never pass you by,
Now hear from me, not your praises from me,
And may my reproach never reach an age in which you live.
Nor did time blame you when I was in you.
وَلاand not اِستَأذَنَتsought permission فيكَinto you المَعاليexalted virtues كَريمَةًnoble
فَقُلتَthen you said لَهاto her إِلّاexcept اِدخُليenter بِسَلامِin peace
Nor did noble excellence ever seek leave to enter you,
Nor did glorious virtues ask your permission humbly,
Without your saying to her, 'Enter in peace.'
And you said to them, “Enter in peace.”
وَلاand not قُلتُI said مَطروداًdriven out بِعامِby a year مَجاعَةٍfamine
وَلَكِنand yet طَريدٌone driven out مِنfrom سُيولِtorrents غَمامِrain clouds
Nor did I say I was driven out by a year of famine,
Nor did I say, expelled in a year of famine,
But rather by torrents from rain clouds.
But expelled by torrents of clouds.
وَإِنand if كُنتُI was قَدalready أَضجَرتُكُمI wearied you بِإِقامَةٍby staying
فَلاso no سَمِّpoison مِنfrom بَعدِهاafter it بِلِثامِin a kiss
And if I have wearied you with my stay,
And if I wearied you with staying,
Then let there be no poison in a kiss afterward.
Then do not blame me after it with slander.
