أَقوىstrongest دَليلٍproof عَلىof تَعَذُّرِهاits being unattainable
أَقوى دَليلٍ عَلى تَعَذُّرِها
You advanced it in intention; its delay
You presented it with intention, though it was delayed
Is the strongest proof that it cannot be fulfilled.
The strongest proof of its difficulty
ياO ناهِضاًone rising نَحوَtoward حاجَةٍa need عَثَرَتhas stumbled
يا ناهِضاً نَحوَ حاجَةٍ عَثَرَت
ياOh لَهفَanguish حُزنيmy sorrow عَلىover تَعَثُّرِهاits stumbling
يا لَهفَ حُزني عَلى تَعَثُّرِها
O you rising toward a need that has stumbled,
O you who set out to fulfill a need, but stumbled
Oh, the anguish of my sorrow over its stumbling!
