فَفيso on البَرِّthe land بَحرٌa sea قَدhas طَمىsurged تَحتَbeneath جَيشِهِhis army
وَفيand on البَحرِthe sea بَرٌّland قَدhas عَلاrisen فَوقَabove فُلكِهِhis ships
So on land a sea has surged beneath his army,
Beneath the raging sea lies land submerged by waves,
And at sea land has risen above his ships.
While above the sailing ship ascends dry earth it braves.

When he proclaims the Merciful’s greatness at the hour of slaying them,
When God, the Ever-Merciful, wills the hour of their death,
The day of slaughter at his hands resembles his sacred rites.
That day of killing will resemble feast days, by His behest.
وَطاغِيَةُand the tyrant الإِفرَنجِthe Franks ماnot جازَprevailed مَحكُهُhis obstinacy

And the tyrant of the Franks—his obstinacy did not prevail
The Frankish tyrant thought no blade could make him bleed,
Against us; and this sword is the stump against which he rubs.
Yet here this sword now proves his boasts were but straw, indeed!
وَفيand in أَسرِهِhis captivity الإيمانُfaith كانَhad been بِأَسرِهِin its entirety
فَلاso may not عُدِمَتbe lost كفٌّa hand تَسامَتrose high لِفَكِّهِto free it
And in his captivity, faith had lain in its entirety;
Though captive, faith within such prisoners was never bound,
So may the hand that rose high to free it never be lost.
No hand was spared that sought to loosen and unwound.
