Our hackhorse has no conceit today;
Our companion today has nothing strange in his speech
and everything in his talk is a wonder.
And everything he says is strange

What I tasted was a tail upon his mouth;
I have not tasted blame on his mouth
rather, it is a burrow whose cover is a tail.
Rather he is a burrow whose cover is a tail

A burrow with droppings in it, beside his burrow;
A burrow in which there is a young camel at his burrow's entrance
I recognized it—clumps beneath his chin.
I recognized him underneath his beard a wart

not every target is reached by pursuit.
Not every desired target is hit by seeking

the reeds were driven in beneath its fingernail.
Reeds planted underneath its fingernails

They said: And his palm's pens are twigs
I said, 'You lie: its pens are bundles.'
I said: You lie, his pens are tendons

No, they neither recited nor wrote

Your age is long and kinship is near

since you can obtain them, are imitation pearls.

A caliph from Bani Othman did not

is eloquence to which victory is due.
An obligatory eloquence it must overcome

And we knew bare it the veils

And the matter becomes easy Rajab did not dissolve

Does the Sheikh fall? I said: No, he jumps
