O you who run as a fool runs,
O passerby abusing my friend
and return as a forbearing man returns:
Returning with patience’s grace,

تَ سَمِيَّها مِن غَيرِ ميمِ
You lost a whip (miqraʿa), and came back
You’ve ruined a promised event,
as its namesake, minus the letter mīm.
And named it without mem’s trace.
