أَوَجهَO face العُلاof glory أَسفِرْshine forth فَقَدfor indeed أَقبَلَhas arrived البَدرُthe full moon
وَكَفَّand O hand النَدىof generosity أَمطِرrain down فَقَدfor indeed بَخِلَhas been stingy القَطرُthe rain
O face of glory, shine forth, for the full moon has arrived.
The heights of glory dawn, for the full moon is nigh
And O hand of generosity, rain down, for the rain has grown stingy.
The dew has ceased, rain down, for the rain is shy
وَياand O دَهرَناour age أَحسِنdo good فَإِنَّكَfor you مُحسِنٌa benefactor
وَمَنand whoever سادَbecame lord over أَهلَthe people of الدَهرِthe age كانَwas هُوَhe himself الدَهرُthe age
And O our age, do good, for you are a benefactor.
O fate of ours, be kind, for kindness is your way
And whoever is lord over the people of the age is himself the age.
Who rules people, rules time and sways the day
وَياand O مَنyou who سَقىgave to drink بِالخَمرِwith wine مِنfrom طيبِthe sweetness of ذِكرِهِhis renown
أَلاcome now فَاِسقِنيthen give me to drink خَمراًwine وَقُلand say ليto me هِيَit الخَمرُthe wine
And O you who served wine drawn from the sweetness of your renown,
O you who quenched with wine of fame and word sublime
Come, then give me wine to drink, and tell me, 'It is wine.'
Give me to drink of wine, say “This is wine” by rhyme
عَدَدناwe counted بِحارَthe seas of الماءِwater سَبعَةَseven أَبحُرٍseas
وَلَكِنbut بِحارُthe seas of الجودِgenerosity أَنمُلُكَyour fingertips العَشرُthe ten
We counted the seas of water as seven seas,
We counted oceans seven made of waters wide
Yet the seas of generosity are your ten fingertips.
But oceans ten of generosity in you abide
