O dwellings of loved ones, time has toyed with you,

So the answer came from my eyelids.

And my steeds are tears, and the rising breath

Is my race, and my cheek my arena.

So when I say, “Where is my home?” and they say,

“This is it,” I say, “Where is my time?”

The lover's homeland is union; otherwise,

He is a stranger through and through in every homeland.

And passion's torment is sweeter in the mind

Of my love than the comfort of forgetting.

May God bless the water for the women who chide,

And gladden the lovers with fires.

Indeed, in love lies a secret of meaning; so leave them

Forever ignorant of the secret of meanings.
