ياO فاضِلاًdistinguished one بَهَرَتناdazzled us مِنfrom فَصاحَتِهِhis eloquence
يا فاضِلاً بَهَرَتنا مِن فَصاحَتِهِ
بَلاغةٌeloquence لَمnot تَكُنwas فيwithin قُدرَةِpower البَشَرِhumankind
بَلاغةٌ لَم تَكُن في قُدرَةِ البَشَرِ
O distinguished one, we were dazzled by your eloquence—
O excellent one, your eloquence has amazed us
An eloquence beyond the power of humankind.
An eloquence beyond what mortals can achieve
أَرسَلتَهاyou sent it forth دُرَراًpearls حَلَّتadorned مَسامِعَناour ears
أَرسَلتَها دُرَراً حَلَّت مَسامِعَنا
ياO بَحرُsea حَسبُكَenough for you ماwhat أَهدَيتَyou bestowed مِنof دُرَرِpearls
يا بَحرُ حَسبُكَ ما أَهدَيتَ مِن دُرَرِ
You sent it forth as pearls that adorned our ears.
You sent them as pearls that graced our ears
O sea, the pearls you have bestowed are enough.
O ocean, your gifts of pearls are enough
لَفظٌspeech وَخَطُّand handwriting وَكُلٌّand each مِنهُماof the two of them حَسَنٌbeautiful
لَفظٌ وَخَطُّ وَكُلٌّ مِنهُما حَسَنٌ
مِنfrom مُحسِنٍone who excels فَهيَso it is مِلءُfull measure السَمعِhearing وَالبَصَرِand sight
مِن مُحسِنٍ فَهيَ مِلءُ السَمعِ وَالبَصَرِ
Speech and handwriting, each of them beautiful,
Words and script, both so beautifully composed
From one who excels, filling the ear and the eye.
By a gifted one, filling hearing and sight
فَلَمso not أَزَلI cease اَجتَنيI gather لَيلىLayla مَحاسِنِهاher charms
فَلَم أَزَل اَجتَني لَيلى مَحاسِنِها
وَأَجتَنيهاand I gather them فَقُلso speak فيof الزُهرِthe bright stars وَالزُهَرِand the blossoms
وَأَجتَنيها فَقُل في الزُهرِ وَالزُهَرِ
