مُبَدِّلاتي فَتى تَعنيهِ أَوجاعي
May the fates, now that I have divorced my ambitions,
Perhaps destiny, when I dismissed my ambitions,
grant me instead a young man who cares about my pains;
Will replace them with a youth who cares for my pains,
مَنone who إِنif سَعَيتُI strove رَأىhe saw سَعييmy striving فَأَقعَدَنيthen he seated me

وَقامَ عَنّي وَبي حَتّى هُوَ الساعي
One who, if I strive, sees my striving and bids me sit,
One who, if I started a task, would stop me from it,
and acts in my stead and supports me, until he is the one striving.
And take over from me, becoming himself the doer,
أَنوطُI entrust حاجيmy needs بِرَحبِto one broad in البالِmind واسِعِهِspacious in it
أَنوطُ حاجي بِرَحبِ البالِ واسِعِهِ

إِن يُنطَ حاجٌ بِواني الخَطوِ مِصلاعِ
I entrust my needs to one broad and spacious of mind,
I entrust my needs to the vastness of patience,
if a need is entrusted to one slow of step and prone to falter.
If a need is met by feet that stumble and slip.
