لَقَد حَلَفتُ وَلَم أَحلِف عَلى الكَذِبِ

لَقَد حَلَفتُ وَلَم أَحلِف عَلى الكَذِبِ

دَهري لَقَد حَلَفَ الواشي عَلى الكَذِبِ

دَهري لَقَد حَلَفَ الواشي عَلى الكَذِبِ

I have indeed sworn, and have never sworn falsely

I swear I did not swear on lies

in all my life; the slanderer has indeed sworn falsely.

My life, the slanderer surely swore on lies

لَم يَجرِ وَاللَهِ في سِرّي وَفي عَلَني

لَم يَجرِ وَاللَهِ في سِرّي وَفي عَلَني

لا في رِضايَ وَلا وَاللَهِ في غَضَبي

لا في رِضايَ وَلا وَاللَهِ في غَضَبي

It never occurred, by God, in my private or public life,

By Allah, nothing of that sort crossed my mind

neither in my contentment nor, by God, in my anger.

Neither when content, nor, by Allah, when irate

إِنَّ الَّذي قالَ عَنّي لَم أَقُلهُ وَلا

إِنَّ الَّذي قالَ عَنّي لَم أَقُلهُ وَلا

شَغَلتُ قَطُّ بِهِ سِرّي وَلا طَلَبي

شَغَلتُ قَطُّ بِهِ سِرّي وَلا طَلَبي

Indeed, what he attributed to me I did not say, nor

What they said about me, I never uttered

did I ever make it the concern of my inner thoughts or my pursuits.

Nor did I ever ponder it or seek it

أَيَقتَضى عَدلُ مَولانا عَلى مَلَكٍ

أَيَقتَضى عَدلُ مَولانا عَلى مَلَكٍ

يَرمي الشَياطينَ يُرمى مِنهُ بِالشُهُبِ

يَرمي الشَياطينَ يُرمى مِنهُ بِالشُهُبِ

Does our lord’s justice demand that an angel

Would it befit our Lord’s justice over a king

who pelts the devils be pelted by him with shooting stars?

To pelt devils while being pelted with flames?
