رَمىcast اللَهُGod بِالمُقتِرينَwith the poor البُيوتَthe houses
رَمى اللَهُ بِالمُقتِرينَ البُيوتَ
فَضاقواso they became straitened صُدوراًin their breasts وَدوراًand in their homes وَكَسباand in earnings
فَضاقوا صُدوراً وَدوراً وَكَسبا
God cast the poor into the houses,
God cast the insolent out from their homes
so they grew straitened in heart, home, and earnings.
Their hearts and homes grew narrow, their gains naught
وَلَمand not يُغنِهِمavail them أَنَّهُمthat they كَالسُيوفِlike the swords
وَلَم يُغنِهِم أَنَّهُم كَالسُيوفِ
فَلاso not يَستَطيعونَthey are able فيin الأَرضِthe land ضَرباtraveling; striking
فَلا يَستَطيعونَ في الأَرضِ ضَربا
And it did not avail them that they were like swords,
Yet being sword-like did not avail them
for they cannot strike out across the land.
As on earth they were powerless to strike
