    وَعَزمُكَ أَمرُ اللَهِ لَيسَ بِمَردودِ

    Your jihad is God's decree, not to be thwarted;

    and your resolve is God's command, not to be turned back.

    What you have boarded is Noah's ark, and an army

    is like his flood; conquest has been proclaimed in Syria.

    We seem to see the sea of unbelief, its waters drained,

    when ships come to rest, with Jerusalem their Mount Judi.

    And God does not break His promises, now that

    you have sent forth the lances, demanding fulfillment of the promises.

    Indeed, aspirations have conceived after barrenness,

    born between courage and generosity.

    And the points—the points of his tawny lances—have ever been

    keys to high peaks and pens of investiture.

    Through the moist sheen his brandishing gives the bodies of tawny lances,

    and the rosy moisture on the cheeks of white blades,

    وَلَم أَرضَ في عَفوي بِغايَةِ مَجهودي

    we receive blessings through his effortless bounty;

    yet in my own free offering I was not content with my utmost effort.

    فَعُمدَتُهُ دونَ الحَوادِثِ تَجريدي

    For him I unsheathe a prayer each night;

    my unsheathing is his mainstay against calamities.

    علِمنا وَلَكِن لَيسَ يُجهَلُ تَشييدي

    And the height of your house stands above the two Simak stars;

    we know it—but my building it up is no secret.

    Your kindness is beyond counting in his eyes,

    and but for this kindness he would count for nothing.

    May no age fail to bear witness to greatness

    in you, nor any time go unwitnessed by you.

    وَيا رُبَّ مَفتوحٍ كَآخَرَ مَسدودِ

    When the door of audience is shut, generosity still passes through;

    and oh, how many an open door is like another that is barred!

    When they strike sparks from the blades' fire-stick, blood courses,

    raining like meteors in pursuit of a rebellious demon.

    They shone, gave them gifts, brought joy, and sent them onward:

    are those swords, then, or auspicious stars at birth?

    And indeed, you are a sea that demolishes towering heights,

    not a torrent that hurls boulders.

    فَلا تَنسَ تَسييري عُلاكَ وَتَقييدي

    We send it forth, with glory bound within it;

    so do not forget my spreading your glory and binding it in verse.

    فَيا كِذبَ تَشجيعي وَيا صِدقَ تَفنيدي

    And my despair judged me foolish, while hopes emboldened me;

    ah, how false the encouragement I received, and how true the rebuke!
