Never lift your gaze toward them,
And remember their punishment for those who keep vigil.

Sleep, you who have forgotten love; yet closing
The eyelids in forgetfulness is no slumber.

The heart has turned to stone again, as of old;
So perhaps good fortune will glance upon the stone.

Time has kindled gray hair—a fire of war;
And I deem it a welcoming fire for death.

Its fire has indeed spread in sparks.

فَسَلا العَزائِمَ ثُمَّ زادَ بِهِ

نَقصُ القُوى حَتّى سَلا الخَمِرا
So it forgot its resolves; then there grew within it
A loss of strength, until it forgot wine.
