    Do not be vexed at what I have done, for it is

    a breast breathing out the secrets of ardent love.

    As for parting from you and meeting you, the former

    brings me death, and the latter brings me back to life.

    فَمَتى يَرِقُّ لَنا الزَمانُ وَيَحنَثُ

    Time has sworn to sunder our union;

    so when will Time soften toward us and break its oath?

    How long can the body last, when its soul is not

    within it, nor its breaths—how long can it last?

    Your letters lie around the beds, so it is as though I were

    one stung by you, and they the healers who breathe charms.
