I returned from him without hearing or sight,
nor heart, nor tears, nor breath,

nor beloved, nor family, nor homeland,
nor patience, nor sleep, nor solace.

The meeting lasted an hour, and parting was its end.
How hideous—a divorce on the wedding night!

لِمُحسِنٍto a benefactor إِنif أَساhe does wrong لاmay ... not كانَexist كُلُّevery مُسيwrongdoer
Time would not wait even long enough to hear what one says
to a benefactor who does wrong: 'May every wrongdoer be no more!'
طالَhas grown long الزَمانُtime وَماyet not أَنسىI forget عُهودَهُمtheir pledges
وَكُلُّand every عَهدٍpledge إِذاwhen طالَgrows long الزَمانُtime نُسيis forgotten
Time has grown long, yet I do not forget their pledges;
and every pledge, when time grows long, is forgotten.
