They said, “We saw lions whose custom is patience.”

So I said, “Sons of Ayyub—and no wonder!”

Those who drink the cups of death, filled to the brim,

    With spearheads for bubbles along their rims;

And those who kindle the fire of war, which has no

Fuel but spears and the ribs of foes.

Ask of them in every circumstance; and even when

They are angry, anger does not restrain their generosity.

Do not spend time devising grounds for a request,

For not every gift of theirs has a cause.

These men maintain the ties of kinship throughout their lives,

And between their wealth and the seeker of bounty lies kinship.
