At time’s reversals, does he turn his face away—

a generous man wielding his inherited glory?

Could this saying of theirs prove vain—far be it from him—

“Noble men sought through him the protection from time they received”?

None seized the chance for kindness except a procrastinator,

and none was cheated of kindness except a procrastinator.

So he replaced a world that had turned away with a remnant

he relinquished; and good fortune replenishes.

    فَنَفسَكَ بِالإِسعافِ لا الناسَ تُسعِفُ

    So hasten, in either of your states, to aid a petitioner;

for by giving aid you aid yourself, not other people.

And these curtains hanging down at your door

conceal—but, if you reflect carefully, they reveal.

When a man spares humankind the anguish of their fears,

God will spare that man whatever he fears.
