وَأَذكُرand I remember أَيّامَthe days الشَبابِof youth وَعَهدَهُand its season
فَيَحسِرُso lays bare دَمعُthe tears العَينِof the eye عَنfrom حَسرَةِthe anguish القَلبِof the heart
And I remember the days of youth and its season.
Then the eye’s tears lay bare the heart’s anguish.
وَمِنand among نَكَدِthe miseries of الأَيّامِthe days أَنَّthat شُجونَناour sorrows
تَقَضَّتhave passed وَأَنَّand that الشَوقَlonging باقٍremains إِلىfor الذَنبِsin
And among the miseries of time is that our sorrows
have passed, yet longing for sin remains.
