نَفسيmy soul الفِداءthe ransom لِغائِبٍfor one absent عَنfrom ناظِريmy sight
نَفسي الفِداء لِغائِبٍ عَن ناظِري
وَمَحَلُّهُand his dwelling فيin القَلبِthe heart دونَwithin حِجابِهِits veil
وَمَحَلُّهُ في القَلبِ دونَ حِجابِهِ
My soul be ransom for one absent from my sight,
My soul I'd ransom for one absent from my sight
Yet his dwelling is in my heart, within its veil.
Yet he dwells in my heart behind no veil
لَولاwere it not for تَمَتُّعُthe enjoyment of مُقلَتيmy eye بِلِقائِهِin meeting him
لَولا تَمَتُّعُ مُقلَتي بِلِقائِهِ
لَوَهَبتُهاI would give it لِمُبَشِّريto the bearers of glad tidings of إِيابِهِhis return
لَوَهَبتُها لِمُبَشِّري إِيابِهِ
Were it not for my eye's delight in meeting him,
If my eyelids gained no pleasure from his meeting
I would give it to the bearers of glad tidings of his return.
I'd have granted them to any bringing news of his return
