وَلَوand if كانَwere هَذاthis الهَجرُestrangement مِنكَfrom you مَلالَةًweariness
وَلَو كانَ هَذا الهَجرُ مِنكَ مَلالَةً
صَبَرتُI would endure وَلَكِنّيbut I أَراهُI see it تَدَلُّلاcoyness
صَبَرتُ وَلَكِنّي أَراهُ تَدَلُّلا
And were this estrangement of yours due to weariness,
If this estrangement were out of boredom from you
I would endure it, but I see it as coyness.
I would have been patient, but I see it as coquetry
مَعاذَI seek refuge in العُلاnobility أَنthat أَستَفيدَI gain مَذَلَّةًhumiliation
مَعاذَ العُلا أَن أَستَفيدَ مَذَلَّةً
بِحُبِّكَthrough loving you لَكِنbut قَدindeed صَبَرتُI have endured تَذَلُّلاin humble submission
بِحُبِّكَ لَكِن قَد صَبَرتُ تَذَلُّلا
May nobility forbid that I should gain humiliation
Far be it from the sublime that I gain humiliation
Through loving you; yet I have endured in humble submission.
From your love, but I have been patient with the coyness
