وَهَبكَand suppose that you نِلتَattained الَّذيwhat تَهواهُyou desire مِنof أَمَلِhope
أَماis it not وَراهُbehind it الَّذيwhat تَخشاهُyou fear مِنof أَجَلِdeath
And suppose you attained the hope you long for—
You were granted what you desired of hope
Is not the death you fear behind it?
Yet beyond it lies what you fear of end
ماnot الأَمرُthe matter إِلّاexcept مُبينٌplain واضِحٌclear وَجَليand manifest
فَكَيفَso how أُصبِحُI enter the morning أَوor أَمسيI enter the evening عَلىin وَجَلِdread
The matter is nothing but plain, clear, and manifest.
The matter is clear, manifest, and evident
So how can I face morning or evening in dread?
How can I become morning or evening worried
إِنّيindeed I لأَعلَمُsurely know عُقبىthe outcome كُلِّof every عاجِلَةٍfleeting thing
لَكِنَّهُbut it is the case that خُلِقَwas created الإِنسانُhumankind مِنof عَجَلِhaste
I surely know the outcome of every fleeting thing,
Verily I know the consequence of every hastened deed
Yet humankind was created of haste.
But man was created of haste
