وَحَسِبتُهُand I took it to be وَالطَرفُand the gaze مَعقودٌfixed بِهِupon it
وَحَسِبتُهُ وَالطَرفُ مَعقودٌ بِهِ
شَخصَform الحَبيبِthe beloved بَداappeared لِعَينِto the eye of مُحِبِّهِhis lover
شَخصَ الحَبيبِ بَدا لِعَينِ مُحِبِّهِ
And I took it—with my gaze fixed upon it—to be
I thought it was him, as my eyelids were lowered,
the beloved's form, appearing to his lover's eye.
The figure of my beloved appeared to the eyes of his lover.
