وَلَمand did not أَرَI see قِرناًa rival تعجِزُrenders powerless الدَهرَTime حَربُهُits warfare
وَلَم أَرَ قِرناً تعجِزُ الدَهرَ حَربُهُ
سِوىexcept الشِعرِpoetry إِنَّindeed الشِعرَpoetry يَبقىendures عَلىthrough الدَهرِtime
سِوى الشِعرِ إِنَّ الشِعرَ يَبقى عَلى الدَهرِ
And I have seen no rival whose warfare leaves Time powerless,
Never have I seen an era that the ravages of time cannot destroy
Except poetry: indeed, poetry endures through time.
Except for poetry, for poetry remains forever
تُنيرُshine جَميعَall الزُهرِthe bright stars لَيلاًat night وَتَنطَفيand go out
تُنيرُ جَميعَ الزُهرِ لَيلاً وَتَنطَفي
مَعَwith الفَجرِdawn إِلّاexcept أَنجُمَstars الشِعرِof poetry فيin الفَخرِproud praise
مَعَ الفَجرِ إِلّا أَنجُمَ الشِعرِ في الفَخرِ
All the bright stars shine at night and go out
It illuminates all the flowers at night, and scatters
With dawn, except the stars of poetry in proud praise.
With the dawn, except for the stars of poetry in glory
