آهاً عَلَيها لَيالٍ ما تَرَكنَ لَنا
إِلّاexcept الأَسىsorrow وَعُلالاتٍand remnants مِنَof الحُلُمِdreams
إِلّا الأَسى وَعُلالاتٍ مِنَ الحُلُمِ
Ah, for those nights that left us
Alas for those nights that left us nothing
Nothing but sorrow and remnants of dreams.
But sorrow and dreams' false allure.
عَسىmay الرِياحُthe winds إِذاwhen سارَتthey travel مُبَلِّغَةًbearing messages
عَسى الرِياحُ إِذا سارَت مُبَلِّغَةً
توفيkeep faith فَقَدfor indeed غَدَرَbetrayed الأَحبابُloved ones بِالذِمَمِwith regard to pledges
توفي فَقَد غَدَرَ الأَحبابُ بِالذِمَمِ
May the winds, when they travel as messengers,
Perhaps the winds, if they would go bearing word,
Keep faith, for loved ones have broken their pledges.
Might yet my loved ones' faith assure.
