And suppose this door is a qibla for livelihood,

so here I am: unlike you, I have turned my back on it.

And suppose it is the sea that brings forth wealth,

then may all the shit on the shore be in the sailor's beard.

And take from these rare pearls what flowed

from me in sobriety, while it flows in gratitude.

And by God, you had no success with the curtain drawn,

if it was not drawn over those behind the curtain.

Away with you, for I have no need of wealth,

out of pride; and I have counted myself rich through poverty.

And I spent my days as they ran their course,

and they have fallen behind me—farewell to Time.

    أَلَيسَ المَنايا السودُ خاتِمَةَ العَمرِ

    And we said, 'Some white hopes come true';

are not black deaths the close of life?
