وَأَغيَدَand a graceful youth مِثلُlike الصبحِthe dawn بَلبَلَthrew into turmoil لَيلَهhis night
وَأَغيَدَ مِثلُ الصبحِ بَلبَلَ لَيلَه
فَأَفنَيتُso I spent لَيلاًa night لَيسَnot يَفنىcomes to an end بَلابِلاanguish
فَأَفنَيتُ لَيلاً لَيسَ يَفنى بَلابِلا
And a graceful youth, like the dawn, threw his night into turmoil;
And the nightingale sang like the morn
So I spent a night that would not end, in anguish.
So I spent a night that cannot be spent with nightingales

لَهُ بِنَعَم قالَ الفُؤادُ بَلى بَلى
When my hearing said he had not answered love’s call
When my hearing said “Listen!” it did not heed the call of passion
To him with a ‘yes,’ my heart said, ‘Yes, yes.’
My heart responded “Yes! Yes indeed!”
