كِتابٌa book صَحِبتُI kept company with الأُنسَthe delight of companionship حينَwhen قَرَأتُهُI read it
كِتابٌ صَحِبتُ الأُنسَ حينَ قَرَأتُهُ
كَصُحبَةِlike the companionship of ماwhat فيهِis in it مِنَof اللَفظِthe words لِلمَعنىwith the meaning
كَصُحبَةِ ما فيهِ مِنَ اللَفظِ لِلمَعنى
A book—when I read it, I kept company with delight,
A book whose company brought joy when I read it
As the words within it keep company with meaning.
Like the company of its words joined to their meaning
هُوَit الجَوهَرُthe jewel (substance) الأَعلىloftiest وَماand what قَدalready رَأَيتُهُI have seen it
هُوَ الجَوهَرُ الأَعلى وَما قَد رَأَيتُهُ
مِنَof الجَوهَرِthe jewel (substance) الأَعلىloftiest هُوَit العَرَضُthe accident (nonessential attribute) الأَدنىlowliest
مِنَ الجَوهَرِ الأَعلى هُوَ العَرَضُ الأَدنى
It is the loftiest jewel; and what I have seen
It is the highest essence, and what I saw of it
Of the loftiest jewels is the lowliest accident.
Of the highest essence is the lowest accident
