وَيَدعو الوَفا مِنها بِأَلفِ سَمَوأَلِ
Your servants prove the equal of a thousand Samaw’als,
Your servants prove the equal of a thousand Samaw’als,
And fidelity among them calls forth a thousand Samaw’als.
and loyalty summons a thousand Samaw’als from among them.

Were the Nile to rival the abundance of your forbearance,
And your forbearance—were bounty compared with its excellence,
It would not equal even a mustard seed’s weight of it.
that bounty would not equal even a mustard seed’s weight of it.

The pens of rhyme write of their love for you
And the pens of rhyme write out of love for you
In lines no one can efface except with a kiss.
lines that nothing but a kiss can erase.

You faced your enemies with your very lives—
You met your enemies with your very selves
As armor; while, if they face you, they come with a mighty host.
as shields; yet if they meet you, they come with a mighty host.
